5 Evidence Backed Health Benefits Of CBD

CBD is here to stay. It is estimated that 6.5 million people in the UK use CBD, or cannabidiol to use its full name.

Thanks to this increase in popularity, scientists and researchers are undertaking more and more studies to understand if the claims around CBD are true, and many of the findings are in and published in scientific journals.

Let's take a look at some of the most promising studies, backed by science, showing the health benefits of CBD.

1. CBD can improve sleep

In a case study, published in the peer reviewed Permanente Journal, the sleep quality of 103 adults taking CBD was tracked. The study found that 66.7% of all patients reported an improvement in sleep quality in just one month.

2. CBD has been proven to reduce anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people take CBD, and in this study it was found that after just four weeks of being administered CBD three times a day, patients reported reduced anxiety as well as improvements in mood, sleep, quality of life, and measures reflecting their self-control and ability to think flexibly. Patients did not experience any serious negative effects during the trial.

3. CBD may reduce pain

A 2020 review found that CBD may have benefits for relieving chronic pain, improving sleep, and reducing inflammation, but with a catch: the effects are condition-specific.

Pain is complicated, and presents in different ways for different people with different conditions, but for some people, the evidence shows that CBD can help.

4. CBD could play a role in treating addiction

Addiction is wide range, from substance abuse, to alcoholism and gambling. In numerous studies, CBD has been shown to play an important role in treating addiction.

Studies are still underway to understand exactly how CBD can treat addiction. Research has found that CBD can not only interact directly with the brain cells that respond to drugs like heroin, but also provide therapeutic relief from the triggers that feed into addiction, such as stress and anxiety.

5. CBD can reduce blood pressure and improve heart health

In a double-blind study healthy male volunteers were given a 600mg dose of CBD or a placebo. Researchers found that those given CBD had lower resting blood pressure.

While these studies all show promise, it's important to remember they don't constitue medical advice, and you should always speak with a doctor before using CBD for an specific condition.
